Overview

The Shift Change feature allows a dispatcher to schedule a different truck / driver assignment in the future from the current driver / truck. This is helpful for some of the following scenarios:

  • the same truck will run both day & night, driven by different drivers
  • scheduling around weekend or holidays
  • planning out driver assignments ahead of time when trucks are down for planned maintenances

Requirements

The Shift Change feature must be enabled. See Enable Shift Change for info on how to turn this on.

On the Material Dispatch page, the table of dispatched driver's has a Vehicle column that will indicate whether a truck is assigned to a driver. To change the assigned truck, either click on the truck number or the Assign link.

Note: If the vehicle assigned to the dispatch belongs to a subcontractor, you will see the truck number, but you will be unable to click it because truck & driver assignments

Driver

Choose Resources > Drivers from the top menu to access the driver management screens.

Vehicle

Choose Resources > Vehicles from the top menu to access the vehicle management screens.

Assign Now

The pop up shows you the current assignment (if one exists) to the selected Driver or Vehicle, depending on which screen you're on.

In this example, we see that WF23 is not assigned to any driver. We've selected John Driver from the list and it tells us under the drop down that John is not currently assigned to any other vehicles.

To assign John Driver to WF23 effective immediately, simply click the green Save button.

Schedule Assignment

From the shift change pop-up, follow the same steps as you would above to Assign Now; however, this time click the blue Schedule button instead of Save. This will show you some extra fields so you can pick the date and time you want to schedule the assignment to take affect.

Once you've scheduled the assignment, click the green Schedule button.

The next time you look at the shift change pop-up, you'll see the scheduled assignment change. Also, if you change your mind and want to schedule the assignment now, there's a small link below the date/time in red that let's you cancel the shift change.

Unassign Now

From the shift change pop-up, simply click the red Unassign button to unassign a driver or vehicle effective immediately.
